Heart Palpatations 7 year old Ds

Just wondering how worried or what this could be .........
DS 7 has been experiencing some heart palpitations and pain in his chest over the weekend and at school yesterday. He says he can feel his heart beating all of the time now (not usual), there is some pain all the time and sometimes the pain gets worse for a bit. I could definitely feel the palpitations and the second time he had them they lasted for over 1/2 and hour. On the advice of the medical helpline (in Oz) I took him to hospital last night for an ECG. Results are fine so it’s a watch and wait situation, if it continues go and see GP and if he gets breathless or lightheaded I need to take him back. Apart from this he is his usual self but even he said he needed to see a Doctor.
Has anyone had similar experiences?

Is he taking any medications at alll? Or even any vitamins?

I once got palpitations for a couple of months and am pretty sure it was the multivitamin i was taking (sounds unlikely I know!) But other than that it is very often due to dehydration and also lack of potassium. Eat bananas and drink lots of water.

Good luck

Could he be anaemic? Heart palpitations and breathlesness can be symptoms of being low in iron, maybe ask the gp to do some bloods and see if he is deficient in anything

No, but did they take bloods?

ObtuseTriangle · 18/06/2019 00:27

No they didn’t take bloods, they said that would be the next step from the GP if the palpitations continued.
He takes no medications whatsoever, he won’t even take paracetamol. I am going to get him to up his water intake, it’s winter here now possibly with the cold weather he has forgotten to drink as much. I don’t add salt to his food so maybe he lacks electrolytes?? I have some ‘lite salt’ which is potassium chloride so I will add to his food and see if that helps. He eats a lot of meat but not so much green veggies so think his iron would be ok.
Thanks for the advice if it is still happening on Friday or gets worse I will take him to get bloods done.

Just giving this a bit of a bump in case anyone has a similar experience. DS has had no more palpitations but can feel his heart all the time and still has some pain. I have made a GP appointment.
