Ringworm or Impetigo?

Hi, can anybody help? Took dd to doctor with this on her face and they said it was impetigo and have gave antibiotic ointment and has to stay off school for 48 hours. My mummy friend just saw her and said she's 100% sure it's ringworm but surely I have to go with what the doctor says?! Any ideas? Thank you Smile

Ringworm normally has normal looking skin in the middle with a ring around it

@dementedpixie

Thank you, that's what I thought but she was adamant.

Doesn't look like ringworm to me.

Is your “mummy friend” a specialist? Confused

steppemum · 12/06/2019 16:27

ringworm definitely has an edge to it normally, even if not in a ring!

But they need 2 different creams, so if it doesn't clear with one, then go back for the other!

No need for GP if you can't get an appointment, pharmacist can tell you and give you the cream.

Thank you for all your help @Wolfiefan she is not a specialist but she works in a children's nursery so has seen lots of skin complaints before in children and as my daughter is not responding to the treatment I thought maybe the doctor could of got it wrong but hearing from a lot of people impetigo can take a while to go away. Thank you all anyway Smile

I'm surprised she thinks it's ringworm if she's seen lots of kids with itConfused

LoafofSellotape · 13/06/2019 18:08

Yes,impetigo can take its time to go .

@LoafofSellotape Dd teacher today asked me if it was ringworm too!!! Everyone is driving me up the wall with it and I think if I just saw some improvement I wouldn't worry as much. Smile
