Could be a blocked tear duct? quite common in newborns.

It looks like a blocked tear duct. My son had this in both eyes. You can massage gently by the nose nearest to the eye to help move the goo. Or they suggest cleaning it with breaths milk

It could be, very common DD had it from about 4 weeks for what felt like a very long time! I wasn't breastfeeding but apparently that's meant to help if you are

If not, cooled boiled water to help keep it clean

My ds had exact same when he was newborn. Just kept wetting a cotton ball with warm water and wiping it away, it eventually disappeared after a few weeks.
