Allergy, colic or reflux?

Just after some advice as I'm struggling.

Having a mare with my 2 week old daughter. Shes constantly thrashing in pain and grunting, goes red in the face with pain. Just about managing the get 1-2oz in her every 3 hours. She has terrible bottom wind and doesnt burp very well at all.

She almost sounds wheezy when breathing but not sure if I'm just being paranoid.

Night time is hell. I'm getting about 2 hours broken sleep if I'm lucky as shes thrashing all night in pain. Has yellow runny nappies (sorry for tmi!)

I took her to the doctors last week and told her everything and she prescribed infant gaviscon. I've been using it but doesnt seem to have made a difference. If anything, over the last 7 days it's got worse.

Are these signs of an allergy? Or typical colic? Cant stand seeing her in pain.

P.s. she seems to sneeze a lot and cough now and again if that has any sort of connection too

Sorry you're having a tough time. I went through it too-its hell on earth.
Usually if it was an allergy baby would have green stools. But the wheezing is a sign of cmpi.
Has she been checked for tongue tie? That can cause these symptoms.

Google your local area and infant feeding team. There is most likely an nhs team that should be able to help you more than gp. Some gp's just aren't great at infant feeding issues.
If you have spare money, you could access a private feeding specialist but it's very likely there is an nhs one near you.

In the meantime, usual rules really do apply to you so that you can cope- take any help offered, nap for that short period that baby does etc.

I symathisewith you. I had terrible problems with my daughter who turned out to have a severe CMPA and my life was he'll. She never dozed for more than 20 mins, yes 20! It was only diagnosed when she stopped breathing for a considerable period of time. Hers is a very bad case but her symptoms were there as standard from the start.

Is your baby breast or formula fed?
How are you winding her?
It can take really a long time to wind some children in my experience and different positions work for different babies. Look for a British or blue/free tinge around the nose or lips, however slight to tell you if there's wind left.
Some babies wind over your shoulder, some held under the arms so they are bolt upright, some need their back patted or rubbed. It varies.
Also try lying her on your lap then 'cycling' her legs for 5 mins,, it dislodges air the hold her upright to see if it helps.
I wouldn't necessarily expect a 2 week old to have more than 2 oz every two hours , some don't eat much. As long as she isn't loosing weight it's fine. If she's not eating much she will wake more. The plan is to gradually increase the amount.
The wheezing is often due to residual wind.

Is she vomiting much back up? This is important? If you catch it on a muslin, objectively how much is there, and how quickly does it come back up.

If say she's too young for colic at the moment. You need to rule out wind.
Severe vomiting especially projectile, which technically means about four feet accross the room, is a sign. The thing which raises a slight suspicion is the diarhoeaa. How many times a day and is it explosional? This in itself will cause a terrible sore bottom. Use geranium in the yellow tube and put it on ultra thick. It should help. If it doesn't well think again as it could represent allergy.
Does ypur baby have any rash?

How does her poo smell? Mines has CMPI and it smelt like vinegar/sour milk. Very watery and a lot of things you are describing. Doctor prescribed her milk and noticed a good bit of difference

Sounds very like CMPA. There's a questionnaire here to fill in that you can then take to your doctor.

Presuming she is formula fed with mention of ounces, so you might be able to get a dairy free formula prescribed. Definitely go back to HV/GP

Just wondered what the outcome of this was as my 4 week old is displaying similar symptoms and I’m at my wits end! HV says to see how he goes and GP won’t see me as says it’s a HV issue. Thanks
