Sick baby - sleeping all day?!

Hey ladies, so my poor little bubba (10months) is sick. Definite cold, he can't even breast feed he is so congested, he keeps yanking his ears too, possibly an ear infection? I just wanted advice... he has been asleep pretty much all day... I've left him sleep... is this the right thing to do? Do you think he will be up all night? Confused can Doctors do anything for ear infection / cold? Anyone know anything I can do to help him?

Thanks in advance Smile

Ear infections can be nasty and need seeing to straight away. Give them a call and explain. Nothing can be done for a common cold unfortunately. Just calpol and nurofen. Check labels for correct dosage obvs.
Sorry to hear he's not well, sounds like he needs sleep to help fight the infection.
Definitely get ears checked today 😊😊

Might need ABs for an ear infection.
Has he got a temperature?
Are you getting wet nappies - you need to keep his fluid intake up.
Can you actually wake him?

Thanks for replies ladies. He woke up but would instantly cry and want to go back to sleep??? He was asleep on my chest 80% of the time. He eventually woke up at 3.30pm! A 4hour nap!! Never had that before now!!

I have rang doctors for appointment and getting seen tomorrow morning. Hopefully they can prescribe something for him No, he doesn't have a fever. He has had three wet nappies today, not as many as normal, he had water from his tippee cup, though has had barely had any milk. Which is not like him at all. He is still yanking his ears now and a bit out of sorts.

Praying he sleeps tonight. Last night was pure hell. He looks shattered despite the nap Sad my poor little guy!

If hes had a bad night due to pain/discomfort then the long nap will be to compensate for the loss of sleep last night. Being at an angle on your chest is probably helping because lying down causes an ear infection pain to feel worse and also post nasal drip/snorting with congestion. Try elevating the head of his cot tonight so he's sleeping at an angle, snuffle babe (vaporub for babies) on his chest to help open airways and calpol for the ear pain. Hopefully the gp will give antibiotics if it's badly infected and those should kick in within about 24hrs.

Thank you nogodsnomasters, he doesn't want to sleep lying down at all! I think your right it must be making it worse. I had to hold him on my shoulder until he fell asleep then place him down in the cot. I've elevated the crib so I'm hoping he has a better night. Fingers crossed the GP gives us something tomorrow. I hate seeing him like this!! Sad

Thanks again ladies x

My DD is 7 and still sleeps off any illness- it's a blessing really, I wish I could. When she had chickenpox she slept 18 hours a day for about 6 days straight. She's a very healthy child, I wouldn't worry, just be glad!

Poor wee baby, it will probably be another long night but this too shall pass op.
