Grunting baby

My baby is 14 weeks old (10 weeks adjusted) and since 2/3 weeks old has grunted and strained to poo. I understand this is very common in babies and that they need to learn to coordinate their muscles in order to go. However, rather than improving it has just been getting worse to the extent that the whole time he is awake now he is focussed on straining to the exclusion of everything else. He then gets very frustrated and starts crying when he can't produce anything. He is exclusively breastfed and isn't constipated (producing 3 or so soft poos a day). Has anyone else experienced this? Did your baby just get it after a while? I feel like we don't have any quality awake time at the moment as this is constantly happening.
