3 year old with Neutropenia

I'm really confused as my son has iron deficiency anaemia, now on supplements, but also neutropenia. The cause of neutropenia is not apparent. I admit, I've googled like a nutter and only bad things come up as to the cause, yet our consultant just says maybe my son has had a recent virus/infection. He hasn't had an obvious one. No symptoms. Obviously he gets tired and is pale from anaemia. Has anyone else come across this and it turned out to be nothing? I'd really appreciate any help!

I am neutropenic Smile
Mine is autoimmune, I kill off my own neutrophils (thanks body!)
It could well just be a recent virus/blip, are they suggesting a retest at any point?

Stripyhoglets · 25/05/2019 20:24

My son did too. He was having alot of virus at the time so they decided it was just one of those things. Low iron as well. He's ok now several years later but i dont know if he's still neutropenic. It was clearly nothing sinister though!

@yesqueen Yes, in 2 months time. Also to check iron.
His neutrophils have been low for at least 7 weeks now.
Thanks for replying. Sorry you have it permanently. Flowers

Thanks @stripy
Really glad your son is better now. Hopefully it will be the same for us. It's just really weird as he's not actually had any symptoms of a virus/infection.
Im sure it will just be one of those things.

His low is the neutrophil count? Has he ever had a normal neutrophil count? Ethnicity may play a role too (e.g. west Africans can have lower neutrophil counts)

Stripyhoglets · 27/05/2019 14:49

It is a worry though but sometimes just one of those things.

Probably should add I was diagnosed at a count of 0.2 but I had abnormal bloods for 8 years, nobody picked up on them HmmAngry
I inject GCSF weekly now as my count is too low without it (without it I am between 0.2 and 2)
