Clicky hips - Chelsea or St Thomas paediatric orthopaedics?

We've been referred for my baby's clicky hips. Anyone have recent experience with the paediatric orthopaedic departments at Chelsea or St Thomas? Good, bad, etc? TIA.

Is there a reason for those two hospitals? We’ve been seeing Mr Nejad at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore for our son’s perthes disease since 2016. Lovely man and a lovely team. Might be worth considering if it works for you in terms of location.

Sorry- I know it’s irritating when you ask (a) or (b) and someone says (c)!

No worries, thanks! Yes, we did have that as an option but it is quite far from us. We’re in south London, so nearly two hours away. Do you reckon it’s worth the journey? We’ve just had an x-Ray and are awaiting the results to confirm if dysplasia or not. I thought If the baby needed an operation or any further follow up, it’s be better to be closer to home, but of course want what will be best for the babe.

Yes, 2 hours is a long time- we’re about an hour away so not so bad.

Hopefully someone will be along with experience of your preferred choices soon. We’ve only ever been to RNOH so not able to compare I’m afraid.

Thank you. It looks like they do have a clinic in CentralLondon but not sure whether we’d be able to be seen there. Thanks again for your response X

I’ve never been offered an appointment at Bolsover Street (but maybe that’s because of where our specialist works - maybe others are different so might be worth asking).

Hope you get some other replies soon!

I don't think they see paeds at Bolsover St now. Paeds at the Evelina (St Thomas) is brilliant. No experience of the Chelsea Hosp.

Clicky hips does not mean dysplasia !

And it it is, you will need a lot of ongoing appts so pick the most convenient place

The treatment is pretty routine with generally good outcomes so no real need to seek out the "best". Good luck !

Thank you all. As it turns out, the RNOH did offer us an appointment at Bolsover Street. And it was more than 4 weeks prior to Evelina, and 8 weeks before Chelsea! We decided soonest was best and hopefully if bub needs ongoing Carr we can transfer to Tommy’s as much closer. X
