Hi my 6 yr old DD has been complaining of a bad tummy and having diahorrea type bm for 4 days now. Is this normal if they catch a bug? She's playing as normal and is going like that maybe 3 or 4 times a day. At school they said she says it alot usually after her milk. Dairy intolerance maybe? I'm going to stop all dairy to see as I thought she just had a bug.

Have been through similar with mine in the past. Could be that the bug has passed, but it could have flushed all the good bacteria from her bowels, which can just mean the loose stools go on for ages - grab some optibac or other probiotic from the pharmacy and see if that helps.

Your DD shouldn't be at school with diarrhoea!! She needs to be at least 48 hours clear of any symptoms before being out and about around other people!

If she's otherwise well, and managing to eat and drink ok, I wouldn't worry about the diarrhoea unless it goes on without improvement for more than a week.

Kids tummies can be sensitive to dairy when they've had a bug, so maybe stop the milk etc for a few days. It's unlikely to be a dairy allergy if she's of school age and it's never been a problem before.

Hope she's better soon, and please keep her at home!
