My newborns legs *PIC ATTACHED*

DPs mum keeps saying my 11 day old sons legs "don't look right" and now I'm really worried.

DPs brother has an extremely rare foot disorder so I think that's where the worry comes from.

Do they look normal to you?

I honestly cant remember what my little ones legs looked like at that age but are you still under the midwife? Or do you have a HV? I would just ask and mention a family member has a foot disorder.

AnyFucker · 10/05/2019 20:03

Why have you attached a picture to invite comment on leg shape and pretty much obscured them with a big daft pair of shorts ? Confused

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 10/05/2019 20:04

Presumably he was checked at birth? I would agree the left one looks turned in but it’s hard to tell from a picture. Also, why are his clothes so massive? Confused

Hope he’s ok Flowers

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/05/2019 20:04

It’s hard to tell - newborns tend to stay quite curled up for a wee while anyway. They would have checked him over in the hospital wouldn’t they? Speak to your health visitor or take him along to your doctor so you can or your mind at rest.

AnyFucker · 10/05/2019 20:04

Does the left foot fully correct outwards ?

TrixieFranklin · 10/05/2019 20:05

Do you have a photo where we can see the full legs? Like in a nappy/baby grow not big baggy shorts?

MrTumbleTumble · 10/05/2019 20:06

DS's foot / ankle looked similar at birth (but more wonky). They spotted it in the hospital and gave us exercises and stretches to do. His legs were completely straight by a few months old he and walks fine now.

If you're worried, speak to your Health Visitor or GP.

mummyofdaughters · 10/05/2019 20:08

Hard to tell with his long shorts on 🤷🏼‍♀️

BertrandRussell · 10/05/2019 20:08

If you’re a all worried ask the health visitor or the doctor. It’s impossible to tell on a single image. What did they say when he was discharged after he was born?

SpaceDinosaur · 10/05/2019 20:09

Those daft shorts obscure his legs entirely.

Take your baby to the doctor or health visitors if you are worried, the internet can't help you and not should you rely on unknowns whit something as important as your littlie x

Whisky2014 · 10/05/2019 20:10

There is something wrong....you've dressed him in ridiculous shorts!

MariaNovella · 10/05/2019 20:10

I would ask to have him checked by a paediatric orthopaedic consultant.

Sexnotgender · 10/05/2019 20:10

From what I can see that’s not covered by massive clothes they look ok but you need to attach a better picture.

incogneto · 10/05/2019 20:10

We were just trying on an outfit that his nan had bought hence the huge shorts!

His leg and feet do fully straighten out, I've attached a better picture. His newborn assessment was fine, we mentioned the fact that his little toes were crossed over but she said they should straighten with time.

She's really making me worried now, we haven't got a HV yet and he's not signed up to GP until next week

My DD had a foot issue at birth and we were referred to an orthopaedic consultant on the NHS.

Dandelion1993 · 10/05/2019 20:11

If there was something obviously wrong you wouldn't have been sent home with some sort of follow up.

You have to remember they've also been bunched up for 9 months and my DDs have always stayed scrunched up a little (I think it made them feel safe).

If you're concerned visit the HV

incogneto · 10/05/2019 20:12

@Whisky2014 I agree Grin his dads a Liverpool fan! If I had it my way he wouldn't be in them..

Can't see another pic

incogneto · 10/05/2019 20:13

Can everyone see the new pic?

DD had similarly curled feet and we were given physio exercises to do with her at each nappy change, basically we striked the outside of her foot gently to encourage her to move it outward herself. It was sorted quite quickly.

BluePheasant · 10/05/2019 20:14

Purely based on the photo I would say he looks like he has left sided mild talipes (turned in foot). It may require a bit of physio if he seems to rest with it in this position predominantly. Just get your GP to have a look OP.

AGirlHasNoCake · 10/05/2019 20:14

my ds was bow-legged until about 18months. Ask the HV to have a look, but until he is bigger, I doubt they will be concerned. Babies are all scrunched up in the womb and come out all curled up.

RuffleCrow · 10/05/2019 20:16

Positional talipes.

My ds had this - basically he had been a huge baby in the womb of a very small woman and his legs hadn't had a great deal of room.

My health visitor was amazing when i raised this with her - we got referred quickly, some excercises to do daily and his legs quickly straightened out. (And became adorably chunky). Grin

MummyBear2352 · 10/05/2019 20:16

Looks a bit like club foot? Maybe go the gp and get them to have a look at it. Nothing that cant be fixed if it is so dont worry too much x x

LizB62A · 10/05/2019 20:17

Maybe google the specific foot disorder that your DH's brother has and see if there is any useful info there?
And then talk to your GP/HV about it.
It's probably nothing to worry about - it does take a while for newborns to "unscrunch" Smile
