The Worst Sickness bug

Hi - never known anything like this so wonder if anyone has any suggestions -will be calling docs back in the morning . I'll try and make it brief .
Flew back from Spain Wednesday eve
Friday Eve my 4 yo started being sick-bad all weekend slightly better by Monday morning.
Me & Husband Sat/Sun (d&v) 😷
Sunday 5yo sick so would have been 48hrs clear and back to school in the morning but he's just been so sick again !
I disinfected the entire house yesterday 😖
Spoke to doctors to see how long were all to be avoided and she said 48hrs after last sick and if anymore of it to call them back coz they'll need stool samples.
What could it be ?? Seems so much harsher than any tummy bug they've ever had and me and husband have never caught them 🤢 I'm worried 😰😰😰😰

It sounds like a horrible gastro bug. Flat lemonade or coke is good. Failing that, a pint of water with a pinch of sugar and a pinch of salt makes a good electrolyte replacement fluid.

Don't let your DC take big gulps of drinks. Lots of little amounts will stay down better.

Thanks @Lougle he guzzled a load of water straight after 😬 will try the sugar / salt water in the morning x

I live in Spain and both me and DD have had really bad gastro bugs this year. They really have been doing the rounds here. Took me nearly two weeks to feel right. DD was not right for nearly a month, as she kept getting the runs after being ok for a few days. I'd advise you watch what you eat for a couple of weeks as it tends to come back when you start eating normally again.

expatinspain · 07/05/2019 21:52

We also took some good probiotics which seemed to help.

coco2891 · 07/05/2019 22:44

Ok thanks @expatinspain x

Sips of water or flat coke, bland food like dry toast until feeling better, no dairy for a couple of weeks and a good probiotic for everybody.

And disinfecting the house won’t work - you need to use bleach to kill it if’s norovirus because it’s resistant to disinfectant. Bleach everything with a bleach and water solution including door handles, light switches, floors, wipe down walls with it, remote controls, the lot. Boil wash all bedding and towels.

Nogodsnomasters · 08/05/2019 07:36

Bleaching everything now is a bit pointless since you've all caught it and cannot catch the same strain again for about 3 months your body will have immunity to that particular one, unless you're expecting guests then yes bleach everything to stop guests catching it. You would need to do door handles, remote controls, counter tops, light switches and everything as norovirus can live on hard surfaces for 2 weeks. Hand washing will be the main way to stop it spreading as you will still be shedding virus particles in your stool for up to 2 weeks after feeling better.

😖😖he seems ok this morning . Spoke to docs and she thinks it was tail end of it. And she said we can catch it again ?!!

Out of interest whereabouts in Spain?

Nogodsnomasters · 09/05/2019 07:31

There is an NHS website article about norovirus that says you are immune for about 14 weeks after you've had it as your immune system creates a resistance to it, after that certain time period the bug mutates/changes so you can catch it again then. Your gp must not have done much research on their employers website lol.

@JellycatElfie Murcia -there was a man in the plane that shouldn't have been allowed to fly -literally shit high , the smell was atrocious, lucky sat the other end to us but I wonder if he had some bug. He had what looked like dried poo up the back of his shirt 😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷😷

And yes as for my gp ?! 🤔
