My child refuses to take medicine.

We've tried hiding it in food and drink, bribery with chocolate, distraction with the iPad and more...

It's now so bad that the only way to do it is to pin him down and syringe it in. He then spits the majority of it back out.

He gets himself in such a state about it that afterwards he vomits so anything that does go in doesn't have any impact.

He's really unwell and I'm seriously stressed that if I can't get his antibiotics into him we're going to end up in hospital (which has already happened earlier this year)

Please help

@MrsMaisel thanks for asking - sadly no good news!! He managed 4 out of 15 doses. He's been awake and crying with pain for 2 hours now and I can't get any calpol in him. I feel wrecked. Looks like it's back to the drs in the morning for another round of antibiotics that he won't take

You poor thing - that's really tough. I hope this passes of its own accord, most things are self-limiting, right?! Hope you get some rest.

I ended up having to mix my daughters antibiotics for tonsillitis in a bit of fresh
Orange juice (meds were orange flavour) - having to do that 3 times a day was tough but got there eventually. I feel your pain.

Can you try letting him do it himself? I know he’s 2 and it will be a big mess. But hopefully if he feels he has some control? Does he have a kids doctor set? Make up a pretend doctors surgery. First, he treats you and pours some medicine (water) onto a spoon or sucks into syringe for you. Then you ‘feel better’. Then his turn to ‘treat himself’? Xx
