Cough, cold

My son is 3.hes woke up this morning full of a cold and slight cough. Every time he gets a cold without fail he ends up really poorly with a chest infection. I've tried plenty to prevent it from turning into one in the past but it always does. Last time I took him to the doctors as soon as he got his cough in hope they would know what was coming and treat before he felt really poorly, but they wouldn't he then ended up dreadful. What I'm asking is does anyone know a way to prevent a chest infection before they have one?

Have they tested him for asthma OP? My DD would always get a chest infection following every cold until she was about 4. Once the gp had decided she had asthma and put her on inhalers, I don't think she had another chest infection.

I mentioned asthma but the doctor said he's too young to be tested, I will mention it again when we go this time, which we definitely will be. Thankyou

DD was prescribed Ventolin syrup when she had colds which did help with her breathing and coughing. She then went on to inhalers which sorted out the problem.

I hope you can get it sorted out, it is horrible when they are ill.
