Hi! Bare with me, not used Mumsnet since I was pregnant with my first (early pregnant at that!) And he's now 6 1/2 🙈 but I thought where better to ask then here! I will not understand the random abbreviations btw 🤦
Ok so, literally think we have some tropical disease/the black death/have been cursed. It's been a week now, a WEEK. No one is getting any better, temperatures are still not stable (my own included) honestly feel that rotten I asked my husband's friend to shoot me the other day. Symptoms are: cough, sore throat, shivering cold then red hot, sickness and the other end, exhausted but can't sleep, then randomly nodding off, hungry but lack of appetite.
It's like flu basically, but it's April and surely even flu wouldn't last this long with no improving symptoms???
Does anyone know of any random bugs going about?? Both my boys started the childminder last week and now I seriously don't want to send them back if this is what's going to happen (both prems)
If anyone can help, thank you!!!

About 10 days each it lasted here, with a crossover of about 3 days when two were ill...
I lay on the sofa for a week straight, even the 8 year old was looking after me, and I am NEVER I’ll.
DH had it worse , obviously Hmm

Vegasprincess89 · 12/04/2019 19:15

Obviously 🤦😂 luckily mines not got it yet, but I have been on the sofa for a week, I think getting hit by a train would be less bad. My 2 year old is really suffering

Do any of you have a red rash on your cheeks? It’s slapcheeck season.

TheGirlWhoLived · 12/04/2019 19:17

It’s horrendous, I know of around 10 people locally that have also had it- the good news is that as soon as you start feeling a tiny bit better (you know, you can breathe etc) then you get properly better about a day or two later, so it’s a quick finisher!

Vegasprincess89 · 12/04/2019 19:19

No not slap cheek, no viral rash either. Is it the flu?? How in April? Glad it's not just us though!

So to PPs saying it's going around is it the flu then? Or something else.

juneau · 12/04/2019 19:23

It could be the flu. This year I've head of several people who've had it (and usually no one around here gets it that I'm aware of). I always think that the end of the winter is the worst for bugs too, particularly when we get a warm spell, followed by plunging back into really cold, which we've had.

I suspect it's a virus. Those bastards can take 10 days to clear from your system. Try and take it easy. Keep up the fluids. Take pain and fever relief and if you're not better after the full 10 days then it probably is the black death (kidding!). My dad got flu last July ... just sayin'.

RogueV · 12/04/2019 19:24

Definitely sounds like flu

TheGirlWhoLived · 12/04/2019 20:02

I don’t know @summerhouse I’m definitely no doctor- the symptoms sound similar to what I and others I know have experienced, could be a virus, could be flu 😷

TheGirlWhoLived · 12/04/2019 20:05

Oooh and ‘blocked nose’ tablets (High dose age of phenylephrine) worked for us adults- plus ibuprofen for sinus swelling and paracetamol as well, as it would be rude not to take the full spectrum of analgesics.
I also took some cough medicine (just guifenasin stuff) but I am white medicine-y

Finally I ended up on antibiotics though as mine turned into pneumonia (succeptible due to asthma) so I had the delicious clarithromycin

TheGirlWhoLived · 12/04/2019 20:05

Quite* not white medicine

Paddy1234 · 12/04/2019 20:06

True flu knocks you out completely - unable to do anything so it does seem like that.
My daughter who is never Ill has been laid out for six days missing masses of parties etc.
