Chicken pox - really sore throat on day 3

Just needed advice/ experience. We’re on day 3 of cp with DS. Today he’s woken up with a really sore throat..wants to spit out his saliva instead of swallowing it. Is this normal for chicken pox? It reminds me of the endless bouts of tonsillitis I had as a child and hoping he’s not coming down with that while his immune system is down.
I know a sore throat is common before the spots appear but he was fine then.

Any experience/opinions gratefully received.
Thank you!

Try some tyrozettes, boots sell them, will help

you can get the pox on any tissue of the body.
so also in the throat and lungs etc.
call the gp.

It could be pox in his throat, it could also be bad luck that he's caught tonsillitis as well. I would definitely have him see a doctor. If it's separate it probably needs an antibiotic. I was hospitalised with it 2 weeks ago and I was in the same position of needing to spit my saliva out, it's a high risk of dehydration.

DD has just about recovered from chicken pox and she had them at the back of the throat. For a couple of days she could only manage small sips of water and ice lollies

Thank you for your thoughts. I couldn’t see any spots in his mouth and he seems a lot better now than he was earlier so hoping that’s the end of it.
