CCAM

Hello! At my 20 week scan today, fluid filled cyst (estimated 5mm) was discovered on the lower right lobe of my unborn sons lung. He has diagnosed it at CCAM.

We weren’t given any information, just told to come back in a week to meet a consultant. Feeling devestated, and lonely.

Anyone have experience with this?

Hello. I was also told of a suspected CCAM back in April. Been a bit of a rollercoaster since then, still is to be honest. How you getting on?

Pretty well all things considering. The cyst our baby has haven’t grown since diagnosis, but they haven’t shrunk either. Baby is developing really well with no sign of hydrous. At our last scan his heart had shifted back into place.

Currently our consultant thinks he’ll be born asymptotic and be able to stay on the ward with me after birth. How about you? Xx

Hello. That’s really good news.

We are also expecting a boy. The believe his heart is still being pushed over by the lung but so far all signs show his heart is working well and not being stressed. No signs of hydrops either, which is great.

It is my understanding that my scan at 32 weeks (in a few weeks time) will be very important - as they hope the cyst will have completely stopped growing by then, and he continues to grow well, sort of outgrowing it in a way.

I had a scan yesterday at the hospital where I’m due to give birth. To check his growth mainly I think. I’ve been told I have ‘excess liquor’ (and not the fun type, unfortunately!) basically a lot of amniotic fluid. They can’t tell me yet if this is anything to worry about. I stupidly did a Google search and have since got rather worried that it can be linked to a CCAM baby not being able to process the fluid through their oesophagus, so it builds up. It really doesn’t do to try and self diagnose online tho, I never learn!

Very keen to get this scan done at 32 weeks now!

Are you still having regular scans?

My scans have only every been 4 weekly, I had an MRI at Sheffield and now I’m under the fetal medical unit at St Mary’s. My last scan was friday just gone and I’ll have a multi disciplinary scan in July!
