6mo with painful gas

DS (nearly 7 months) has been on solids for about 4 weeks - started on puréed veg but been doing BLW since he turned 6 months so he eats similar to what we eat at dinner time (homemade family foods) and has a few bits and bobs at lunch time (fruit/egg/yogurt/etc)
He seems to enjoy most things and has been doing well so far
The problem is that for the past 2/3 weeks he's gotten extremely gassy. It's not too bad during the day but at night he's now waking around 10 times and is screaming, squirming and farting a LOT
I'm doing tummy massage/leg cycling at bedtime in hope it helps but does anyone have any suggestions of other things that might make a difference? I know there's gas drops and such that are recommended for babies but are these remedies effective once they're eating solid foods as well?
Also if anyone has ideas of what foods are likely to cause excessive wind then that would be really helpful too so I can avoid giving to him! Thanks!
