My dd (4) has never had a 'normal' 4/5 on stool chart poo. She had investigations for Hirschprung Disease and this was negative. Since then she's suffered with constipation and impaction twice so we've done disimpaction regimes using movicol twice and we are now trying to maintain a free flowing bowel with 1-2 sachets per day. The paediatrician says it's constipation that's caused the bowel to be enlarged and not work properly. Now that it's clear she says it will take several months to produce a normal poo.
The constipation was never text book - she was having 6-8 poos every day and they were 6 on the chart. The paediatrician said this was overflow but I never felt it was. In the meantime we were also advised to put her on a gluten free diet (even though blood test came back normal) and this did seem to reduce the number of poos she was having although she was on movicol at the same time so was hard to tell what the cause was. Since the second disimpaction we were told to reintroduce gluten but since then she has been having 6-8 poos per day which are 7 on the stool chart. Can I conclude gluten is playing a part here? Should we go gluten free again?
