Ear pinning surgery

Hi
I just wondered if anyone knew if such a thing existed as a list of private hospitals which offer pinnaplasty (ear pinning) for children. My daughter (15) is being bullied at school and is now desperate to have the surgery - we waited until she was old enough to make an informed decision. Unfortunately she has been turned down by the NHS despite her ears sticking out badly :( we have called a few places but it seems not all offer it to under 18s.

Also if anyone can recommend a good surgeon or clinic?

We are in Bedfordshire so somewhere in the South East or London plus. E helpful.

Many thanks

Have you looked at earfold? From their website they treat children from 7 under local anesthetic. You can search for surgeons in your area too. I don’t know much about it but my husbands nephew had his done on the nhs at 6. His weren’t even that bad and I don’t think they had to fight for them to be done.

My ds was also badly bullied at 15. He was completely dismissed by the gp ergo didn't even ask him a single question about bit just told us cosmetic surgery was no longer available on the nhs. He was really upset after the appointment because it took him a year to build up the courage to go. Ours sad that gps don't understand the impact on self esteem and confidence this can have for often vulnerable children.

My sis in law had her 6 year olds done on the nhs. When my friend went to her gp because her teenager was being bullied they said it wasn't available on the nhs. It does seem that the louder the parent shouts the greater the chance of getting it done. My neice in laws ears weren't even that bad and her mum got ten purely for vanity reasons! The frustrating thing for genuine cases is that a lot of areas doubt offer it privately until 18.

Have you tried the Portland?

Gilters123 · 30/03/2019 17:53

No haven't tried the Portland. Currently looking into the Evelina Children's Hospital at Guys and St Thomas's. Will maybe look into the Portland too. Thanks.

Portland use the same consultants as Evelina, GOSH etc. You can pay for the surgery and be looked after on an NHS ward.

I’m a nurse and we sometimes have private patients. Don’t expect a private room though, we treat everyone the same. I sometimes think the surgeons forget to tell people this...

Thank you. That's very useful to know.

I had mine done age 12 and now, age 31, have no regrets. Best decision ever.
I hope you find somewhere soon OP. Kids can be bloody cruel
