Does this sound like constipation

Dd is 2.5 and for as long as I can remember (but not since she was born) she has struggled when doing a poo.

She’ll start by going very quiet and wanting to cuddle on my knee. That when I know she needs a poo. She’ll stay on my knee wanting me to rub her back and tummy for up to two hours. She’ll cry in pain, shake and tremble and generally panic.

Eventually (1-2 hours) later she’ll do a very large poo. It isn’t particularly hard. This is every 3 days on average she pops.

When she does eventually get the poo out it takes half an hour for her to be completely done. In the mean time she will burp and sometimes even vomit a bit with the pressure and urge when she’s pushing the poo out.

I took her to the doctor who prescribed a laxative I had to push into her bottom if she went longer than 2 days without pooing. As usual she did so I inserted the pill and it took about another 18 hours for her to poo despite the laxitive supposedly only taking 15-20 mins to work.

When she did eventually poo she was In a lot less pain. Instead of 2 hours it took about 15 minutes. She wasn’t as panicky but she did vomit due to the pressure of pushing it out.

Hi, yes it does. I would ask for some movicol sachets which will help soften her stool making it easier to pass. My daughter had issues just like this at that age. Now at 6years old we only have occasional problem. Best to get sorted out early before they start forming habits of holding it in xx
