Hi there,

As title says, my little girl is 6 months tomorrow and has just caught chicken pox from her brother. She is absolutely covered, particularly around her bottom and these look so sore. What can I use to soothe these? Also she has now been off her milk only taking small amounts and no longer interested in weaning (we started at 5 months) will this also pass and is it normal for lack of appetite? My 4 year old didn't lose his appetite and in fact ate more probably through boredom as had to stay off from school !! It's horrible to see her suffer :(

Aqueous calamine cream (not lotion as that tends to pull the skin once it dries and so makes it itchy again. Check with your pharmacist that it’s safe for baby, they can tell you of other things you can use too.

Goodness me, my dd was 8 months old when she had CP, and she was so poorly. She hit it 2 weeks to the day after DS(who was 3). . I remember it well. Many sympathies.

We alternated neurogenic and Calpol, but I know that is no longer recommended. The best thing I found was Poxclin mousse. Because it’s a mousse you can dab it on gently without touching the skin.

Other that that... she drank lots of dilute apple juice and was really miserable for a few days. She largely slept through it. Then both dc got bronchitis!

Good luck to all of you.

The only thing that worked for us was a gel called virasoothe. It took the itch out for both mine.
My nephew has sever eczema and has chicken pox just now and it doesn’t react with his eczema at all.
