What is going on with my child’s poo?!

Not a poo troll!!!!

DS is 2.5- he’s never really done solid poos as a matter of course; he tends to go 2-3 times per day, mushy stool with some undigested food, occasional. Have mentioned in passing to dr and they’ve been totally disinterested. He’s asthmatic and often “phlegmy”- most of the time in winter actually.

Since weds he’s been passing mushy to very watery stools, 3-4 times per day. Today it’s stepped up a notch and he’s done 6 poos, the last one almost entirely mucus.

He’s 100% well in himself, no vomit, no temp, no pain, hes full of energy, he’s eating and drinking.....

I’m considering -
Teething? Think he’s cutting a molar?
Toddler Diarrhea???
Side effect of cetirizine hydrochloride which he’s had a lot lately (takes when he’s very snotty, reduces wheeze) ???

Any other ideas? I’m 99% certain it’s not a stomach bug - given it’s more an “intensification of normal” than entirely new...

Advice appreciated!

Mucusy poop us usually due to some kind of infection or IBS type issues. I would keep an eye over the next 24-48hrs and if it continues back to GP. He may have an intolerance to something...

Agree if it lasts a week or if he is unwell in himself you should go back and push for more checks.
There are also some weird bugs going around, our whole family just got one where it started with a mild-ish cold and sore throat followed by 2 weeks of mild diarrhea Envy

@Stuckforthefouthtime

Oh DM and I had a vicious 24 hour version of that a few weeks ago. Sore throat in the morning then horrid noro style horridness for a very intense 6 hours.... then just awfully washed out for an entire week. DS puked a few times but seemed to get off lightly... that was well over 2 weeks ago though, and this has just come on midweek.

Maybe I’ll sterilise a jar and take a stool sample to the GP first thing Monday if the explosive mucus happens again ...

He is a strapping, ruddy boy, I should add- just plagued with upper resp/ ent / chest issues in winter ... stomach trouble is (except for the ever-mushy poos) a new thing for him.
