Recurrent bronchiolitis in 15 month old - anyone been through this?

DS is 16 months and in the last 5 months has had 5 bouts of bronchiolitis, 4 of which we've been hospitalised for.

It's trigged by him catching a cold - a runny nose appears and sure enough 2 days later we are in A&E with difficulty breathing.

Until the most recent bout ( this week) we were told he was just unlucky, and would grow out of it by next winter. We've now been referred to respiratory clinic. We have a salbutamol inhaler and have now been prescribed Montelukast granules.

I'm really concerned about underlying or long term issues. Between bouts he is well, not wheezy, full of beans. But I can't help worrying that he has an immunity issue, or will develop asthma, or that this frequent admitting to hospital will continue. It's very tough as we have another son, having to take days off work etc etc. We live in London and I also worry about traffic pollution as a root cause, although we live on a very quiet street.

Rather unhelpfully the doctor on the ward suggested 'keeping him away from people with colds'.

Has anyone else had experience of recurrent bronchiolitis that they can share?
