Baby waxy ears

My first DC never has waxy ears, the extent of us cleaning them has been a quick wipe with a flannel in the bath each night and they’ve always stayed nice and clean.

However, DC2 (8 months) constantly has waxy ears, I clean them and a few hours later they’re getting gunky again. She even gets little balls of wax that fall out of her ears sometimes. She’s a happy little thing, has never indicated in any way that her ears are giving her any trouble. So what could be the reason for it - is it something I should be concerned about?

Any advice appreciated!

My DS's ear have always been quite waxy. He's 18mo now and not bothered by them. I had mentioned them to the GP early on and he said not to worry, was normal and unless his hearing seemed affected it should be fine.

DS can hear a packet opening across the room fine so I've no more concerns. HTH

I asked HV about this once and she said it’s normal as long as hearing not affected, not to clean the wax until it falls out of the ear. Otherwise they’ll just make more anyway. Ears are supposed to be self cleaning apparently

Interesting, thanks for your replies. DC knows her name and will immediately look to anyone who says it so I don’t think her hearing is a concern, but will keep monitoring it.
