Antibiotics 3 times a day help

What do you do if you have a school aged child on a 2 week course of antibiotics 3 times a day, and the school has a strict no meds policy?

2 weeks is way too long to keep DC off, especially as he's ok to be there just needs to finish his course of meds. DH and I work fulltime so can't pop to school at lunch, it's miles away. And DCs don't get home until 6pm.

How the heck do we do antibiotics 3 times in the day?

First thing in the morning
Home time
Bedtime.

Are you certain it's strictly no meds? Ours ask you to sign a form, and then they will give the meds but only once a day, also as long as they can see it's been perscribed, and not just Calpol etc.

What about after school do they go to after school club attached to school? Or is it separate so you could get the wrap around care to give the meds instead.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/02/2019 13:53

Ours won’t give 3x daily ones only 4x daily ones. They say before school, after school, bedtime.

BlackInk · 05/02/2019 13:53

How about just before he goes to school, as soon as he gets home and another when you go to bed? That's pretty evenly spaced and I'm sure you could do the bedtime one without waking him properly?

8am
6pm
11pm

@Georgie yes our school is the same - they said they would do a 4 x per day prescription but not a 3 x per day one. I just cannot see the logic in that....

@Blackink think that may be our only option

The logic is because it would be impossible to fit in 4 times a day otherwise but not three.

Schools aren’t obliged to give medication at all though, certainly not for short term things.

Ds has had to have low dose antibiotics every day 3 times a day for several months. As it is so difficult to get him to take meds we do it first thing in the morning, when he gets home and just before he goes to bed - his paediatrician was happy with these timings.

Who has the children from end of school until 6?

WordsAndWorlds · 05/02/2019 18:48
