Should I be pushing more at GP?

DS1 is almost 2. He’s had a virus for a week and a half (throat, ears, bit congested and non chesty cough) with temp of around 38.5 on and off. We’ve been treating it with calpol/Nurofen. From Saturday afternoon onwards he hasn’t been himself even though I thought he was getting better. Sunday afternoon he cried for a good two hours straight and ended up being sick. I took his temp and it was up at 40. It’s been at 40 ever since apart from a few hours after each calpol/Nurofen dose when it comes down to about 38. Doctor said she couldn’t find any signs of infection and said a temp that high is likely to be a virus, even though we had previously been told (last week) that lower temps indicate virus.
She said she would see him first thing this morning if I still wasn’t happy so obviously I am going to ring at 8 and ask for him to be seen but I’m not sure if I should be more insistent that somethings not right?

A temperature that lasts more than 5 days definitely needs investigating more. You could ask for his urine to be tested for possible uti. My nephew had a temp of 40 once and he had tonsillitis and a uti at the same time.

Yes push after that amount of time a virus should be improving not getting worse

I hope you get seen and get some reassurances soon
