Infected Ear Lobe Piercings - 10 months in!

At 11yo DD had her ears pierced in March last year. We went to a reputable piercing salon, where needles were used and stainless steel jewellery. We used their saline spray to start with, then cooled boiled salted water thereafter to clean the piercing sites.

DD was so good with no touching/turning and cleaning at least twice per day for 8 weeks. Then she changed her earrings and we realised there was infection. Just a bit of pus from each, but no hot/red/itch.

We went back to cleaning regime, I bought solid gold studs and they went in.

We're still not clear of the pus. Occasionally one will be clear, then the other and it will start all over again. We get maybe a day or so pus free. The best time was when we gave up touching them at all for 5 days and they seemed clear, but then a couple of days later it started again.

Doctor prescribed fucidin cream, which we tried for 14 days to no avail. We have just finished 7 days of chloramphenicol ointment yet I can still see a bit of pus again in both holes.

Do we have to give up or is there something else that might work? Anybody else experienced this? I really feel for DD as she is fed up, but after all this time I don't want her to have to take out the earrings, but I am worried that lasting damage at the piercing sites might occur with persistent infection.

Wash out with pronotosan solution and apply either betadine solution or get inadine strips and put a plaster over it
