3 year old UTI dip tests

DD is now on antibiotics for a UTI after her only symptom of it hurting with weeing being dismissed by nurse as sore bits after dipping her urine and it being clear. Only the second time I insisted they send it off to lab and sure enough it came back with signs of infection.

I don't understand what value there is in the dip test if it doesn't actually work and would you insist on every wee sample being sent to lab now? Just seems such a risk to take in a little one.
