20 month old night terrors?

Evening,

My 20 month old daughter has not been sleeping well this past week. She refused to go to sleep and when she eventually does she wakes up screaming and refuses to go back to sleep. I've tried calpol that doesn't seem to work.

So tonight I've got her on the sofa with me and she seems to be twitching a lot in her sleep and her eyes are twitching like crazy and then her arms and legs go. She wakes up crying, I calm her down and she's back to sleep doing it again.

Is this night terrors or normal?

Oh forgot to mention she is so sweaty as well as in her clothes are wet but no temp.

Thanks in advance.

My DS used to have night terrors when he was about 3. He used to wake up screaming and crying hysterically every night. Sometimes it was just once, others it was three or four times. He would look wide awake, but he would just look straight through you.

We tried everything - hugs, talking, shouting, whispering, lights on, lights off - all to no avail. The only thing that worked was sitting by him and just waiting for the screaming to stop, then he would allow me to cuddle and reassure him.

DS did grow out of them, but they lasted about 12 - 18 months.

Might be worth asking your GP or HV to do a physical check up, but if it is night terrors, this phase will pass eventually.

Good luck. Flowers
