Baby hearing tests

My DD will be 2 in March. When she was born her hearing was checked and they found she wasn’t hearing in her right ear so we were told to come back in 2 weeks. We done that and still nothing so was recommended to the closest child’s hospital. We were in the room literally 1 minute and the lady quickly poked something in her ear, said she was fine and that was it.

She is still not walking, she has been to physio who have recommended some things to try. After speaking to a family member they had brought up it might be a balance problem and maybe there is something wrong with her ear. She may have been doing this for a long time but the past week I have noticed that she will sit and pick her right ear which is the one that had the hearing loss after she was born. Does anyone have any advice or stories they could share with me?

I have the follow up physio appointment at the end of January where I will mention it to them.

Thanks Smile

Was it the puff test in her ear?

They would print out a graph that should have a strong peak in it. Absence of the peak indicates glue ear.

If her other ear is fine, then I don't think they'll do anything other than monitor.

Thank you for replying. No it was like a little plastic tip connected to a machine that went into her ear for a few seconds.

Il mention it to physio at the next appointment and see if they think it may be a concern

Help yes that sounds like the puff test.
That's testing the movement of the ear drum I think. The worse the glue ear the less it moves and the smaller the peak.

They usually send me a letter telling me information about the appointment. Something along the lines of:

"I was delighted to meet this lively (ie wouldn't sit still)/cheerful (because he's missing school)/young (couldn't think of anything else to say) young man with his mother on

His ear drum showed some reaction to the test, but there is still evidence of glue ear in both ears. Both grommets are in/out/in ear canal/probably somewhere about but we forgot to look...
