What the heck happened this morning

About 4am this morning DS (3 months) suddenly went from sleeping soundly to screaming uncontrollably. I couldn’t calm him down is any of the usual ways and something didn’t seem right. He seemed to be struggling to breathe through a lot of mucus and began choking, bubbles and strings of mucus coming out his mouth. Eventually he was sick a load of gloop a few times and, after about an hour of inconsolable crying, went to sleep in DPs arms. He was not at all ill or congested yesterday, nor is he remotely sniffly or sick today. What the hell could have caused this? We’re just all heading to bed now and scared of what’s to come in case it happens again!

Reflux? Hopefully it won’t happen again.

Sorry, pressed post by mistake!

See how you go and if it continues speak to your GP/HV. It’s quite common. Or it could be related to teething: excess saliva.

You could try propping the head of the crib slightly if it keeps happening, but see a GP/HV for a check up x

@ElyElyOy thanks very much for your reply! Luckily we’ve not had it happen again but your suggestion of reflux has made me think - he does have some other things which could also be suggestive of reflux. Going to keep an eye and take a trip to GP if needs be!

My baby had this at the same age and at the same time, she also had it 3 nights in a row and then never again. We assumed it was baby colic and wind had made her feel extremely unwell. She settled by taking her for a walk in the sling (a very early dog walk) and then fell asleep.

Hope your baby is OK tonight.

Have you thought about raising the head of his cot?
