Tips on easing a cough

My 4 year old won’t stop coughing. Seriously affected his sleep over night and dreading the same again tonight.

He is not poorly apart from the cough and it’s not a cough I am worried about. More of an annoying cough than anything else.

Any tips to help ease it? Cough bottles are out due to age (well apart from tixylix if they still do it) but wondering what other things I could do.

I will dig out the humidifier later for overnight.

Boots do a cough medicine in a glass bottle that costs like £1.50 or some such.
It's absolutely brilliant and really helps my DD more than any other medicine she's had.

This one. And it's safe for 4year olds.

Does ds have runny nose?

If ok to take, I would give a few days worth of piriton to try dry things up.

Gp recommended this to us few years ago and have always used since when he has a runny nose.

My ds is the same cough cough cough all night. It's waking him up and he's awake for hours pissing about cos he can't get back to sleep and he needs to be supervised so I'm tired too.

Think were on our third week of coughing now. Which to be honest is nothing for us as his coughs last ages, last year he had a cough for FIVE months! Gp was sick of the sight of us.

Have you tried raising the head end of the mattress at nighttime? I normally pop a pillow or two under the head end of the mattress and that seems to help a bit. Good luck - it’s awful for them (and us!) when they’re cough, cough, coughing in the night...

Thx I will try the boots stuff if I can get into town.

He doesn’t have a runny nose although that may come. I’ll have a look to see what i’ve got.

Poor you having to deal with a cough for so long. Last night was tough and I think it may be worse tonight. Hopefully it will clear soon.

My eldest had a cough for ages last year. I think hers ended up habit.
