Hi,
I’m a first time mum and I’m buying a big bulk of nappies before my baby comes so I don’t have to keep running out or just so that I’m prepared. Can someone help me with the sizing and ages please?
I’m buying from Aldi so the brand is Mamia nappies..

At what age do they go to size 2 and size 3 or 4? I’m not quite sure how this works. And also how many months do they stay in size 1 for? I will put the sizes and kg of the nappies below so it may help with everyone’s answers. What age goes with what size? Also when do I stop using nappies completely and start potty training
His father and I are average sized people of that helps🤦🏽‍♀️

  • Size 1 (newborn) - 2-5KG/4-11 IBS
  • Size 2 (newborn) - 3-6KG/6-13 IBS
  • Size 3 - 4-9KG/9-20 IBS
  • Size 4 - 7-18KG/15-40 IBS
  • Size 5 - 11-25KG/24-55 IBS

Don't try to plan. Different nappies for different babies, even if they "should" fit- brand choice depends on hip/thigh ratio. My 4 week old is 10 lbs and only came out of size 0 nappies last week. He has narrow hips. My 3 year old never got out of size 5, day dry at 2.10, night at 3.4.

My advice would be don't stock up in case they are not the size you expect! The growth scans aren't that accurate!

If you do want to prepare though I would get one of each of the 1st and 2nd size, it depends on their tummy size, you know they are getting too small when the tape can't be done up near the middle. It's not really exact, you will just know.

Good luck with your new baby Smile

The answer depends on a) birth weight and b) how quickly your baby puts on weight.

My baby is 9th percentile... We used Aldi Mamia size 1 until 8 weeks old (about 10 lbs). We're now on size 2 and I expect we will be until 14 weeks if he continues to put weight on at the same rate.

The number of nappies used will vary, you can end up using 6 - 12 a day.

I would probably buy as you go along if I was you... Stock up with a few packs of size 1 and go from there.

I wouldn't buy too many in case that particular brand doesn't work for you (absorbency, fit, baby's skin might react to the nappy fabric).

babysharkah · 15/12/2018 22:39

You can't plan! The nearest nappy shop is never that far away unless you're in the highlands or somewhere equally remote.

AlpineButterfly · 15/12/2018 22:42

I'd also say don't buy too many. I have two boys 23m and 11m. They both wear size 4+ at the moment. Mostly because they absorb more liquid than size 3. They can both comfortably fit into size 3 though if I feel inclined.

Mammatron · 15/12/2018 22:44

What pp's said! Don't stock up!! Buy enough to get you through the first 2 weeks or so but no more

TeddyIsaHe · 15/12/2018 22:44

Don’t stockpile! Mamia nappies might not agree with your baby and cause some nappy rash, they might not fit well and leak.

I would just get a pack of size 1 and 2 and go from there.

I was given a few different brands of nappies as gifts when my little one was born and found that different brands fit differently. I pretty much changed brand at each size increase. Tesco newborn and mamia newborn were great, but tesco size two didn't fit mine well, asda was better in that size, then back to tesco, sainsburys for a bit, then currently asda pull ups. Also, anytime I found a brand the worked well and bulk bought, Dd grew out of them so I always had lots of spare nappies, which I gave away.

octoberbaby2010 · 15/12/2018 22:55

Don't buy in bulk till you know your little one is okay with the brand you choose!!
My little one can only wear pampers any other brand and she flares up in a rash!! Congratulations on your pregnancy xx

Another one saying to not stock up too much. You may find hat brand isn't a good fit your your baby and that they leak or your baby's skin reacts badly to it.

I buy nappies off amazon.
