Chicken Pox for Christmas

NancyJoan · 15/12/2018 09:10

DD, 12, has woken up with the pox.

Beyond Piriton and Calpol, is there anything else I can buy to ease it?

Not looking forward to DS getting it around Christmas/Boxing Day.

Bicarb or oats in the bath. There are various things to put on it now but I used to use aqueous calamine cream. Poxclin rings a bell. Avoid ibuprofen as it can cause adverse skin reactions

Oat baths definitely - put oats into a pair of tights and float them in the water. This dried up the spots really quickly and stopped the itching.

Get the vaccine! Might not to be too late for your ds

Stuckforthefourthtime · 15/12/2018 09:26

Your DS will be able to avoid it or have it much more mildly if you are able to get the vaccine today or tomorrow! Good luck

By the time the spots appear you have been contagious for a while so your ds has already been exposed. Stock up on painkillers and things like oats to soothe their skin and use it as an excuse to cosy up at home during the winter.

You are only contagious for 1-2 days before spots appear and until they crust over. Incubation period is 10-21 days but they aren't contagious for the whole time
