Hello

What would cause my DS's eyes to be puffy, under the brow bone and under the eyes?

Hes been like this since Friday.

Thanks

Sounds like he could do with seeing the GP. If you can find a small clean container, then worth catching a sample of your DS's first wee of the day to take with you. The GP could then dipstick that to look for protein - one of the causes of swelling around the eyes, in children, is the kidneys leaking out protein (nephrotic syndrome).

boble1 · 27/11/2018 20:23

Thank you!

Would it have to be the first wee of the day?

Is nephrotic syndrome bad?

First wee of the morning gives the clearest results. Nephrotic syndrome is probably in the not great, but really not too bad either category. Usually responds well to medication.

Thank you so so much xx

Try an antihistamine

boble1 · 27/11/2018 22:08

Hmmm, does it make any difference that one eye is worse than the other?

Try an antihistamine. I get this and one eye worse.

myidentitymycrisis · 27/11/2018 22:26

as above, could be an allergy. my ds used to get this to cats sometimes.

boble1 · 28/11/2018 10:13

Hello

We went to the GP today with our sample.

She checked it, it was fine. She felt around DS's eyes and ankles and shins.

Said she's not worried.

I'm still worried though.

Allergy or thyroid

boble1 · 28/11/2018 21:04

Oh no! He had a full blood test last year and it was all ok.

@FuckingHateRain

May I ask, are you a doctor? xx

Could be an allergy. Try antihistamine. My eyes go puffy if I touch a cat - it makes me look like I've been in a boxing ring, it gets quite itchy and takes days to go down. Has he been using any different facewash products he may be allergic to?

boble1 · 28/11/2018 21:23

Hi Celticmissey

Ive just remembered something!

DS left a wet flannel on his pillow so I changed it for a different brand of memory foam pillow.

Also, he puts hand cream on before sleeping and he said he rubs his eyes before sleeping.

I don't know - he does lie a lot too.

I have severe anxiety and Im super worried still- I didn't think those urne dip tests were very accurate.

xx

@boble1 no, my Ds last year had hypothyroidism and constantly puffy eyes.
Endocrinologist resolved it with supplements at the end but she did mention that his eye were puffy as a result of his thyroid issue.

Both my youngest and my mum have allergies and get puffy eyes. xxx

boble1 · 28/11/2018 23:30

@FuckingHateRain

Hi, oh wow! Im so glad your DS is OK now.

Thats very interesting-my family suffer with underactive thyroid. Im currently on 150mg Levothyroxine. Im not quite if your DS is underactive or overactive - I get mixed up, lol.

Did your DS have the urine dip test? Then bloods?

I appreciate your post - Im feeling slightly more relaxed now. xx

Sorry for delay... we just had blood test, we had those both at GPs and at endocrinologist's office. They don't always give meds for thyroid sometimes iodine or selenium will work so definitely not as bad as it sounds

Allergy wise I would really try the antihistamine that other pps suggested x

boble1 · 30/11/2018 11:09

@FuckingHateRain

I will certainly try the antihistamine.

Thank you so much xx

If he rubs his eyes before sleeping it could be the pillow that's irritating him. So he lies down, eyes get itchy, he rubs eyes.
If the worse eye is closest to the pillow that might be a reason.
