Chicken pox under nappy

Any tips on getting pox under the nappy to crust over? All the others are scanned and no new ones are arriving, but we can’t get back to nursery until the last three heal. They’re early ones, so it’s just the nappy that’s stopping them - but every time we try nappy free time he wees all over the place.

Exclusion period is normally 5 days after spots appear. How long has he had chicken pox?

HJBeans · 21/11/2018 10:11

He’s on day 9, but have checked and nursery won’t take him till all the spots have scanned over.

They will be unlikely to scab if they are moist though. Have you tried putting nappy cream on them? I wonder if a gp could confirm he is no longer contagious.

We tried bicarb or baking powder (can't remember which but found it via google) in the bath which was meant to help them scab. Then try a bit of nappy free time if you can.

Thanks all - we’ve been doing oatmeal baths and tried bicarbonate today (though it was best before 2016, so who knows if it’s still helpful!) Will try more nappy free time after nap, but he’s terrible for weeing anywhere than the potty.

Do I want to go back to work before I have an insurmountable backlog or have a sofa soaked in wee? The trade-offs of parenthood.
