Saw this when changing my 5 week old DS. Is it an ingrown toenail? Looks quite red but doesn’t appear sore when I touch it.

Could he have a hair wrapped around the base of his toe? It's fairly common-a tourniquet I think it's called.

If it is it needs medical attention because they can be virtually invisible and need removing properly.

At 5 weeks old, I would get it checked today by a professional. You could always start with a pharmacist but no dr would
Mind seeing a baby that young as an emergency.

My DD had something similar on her finger when she was 3 weeks. I was surprised when the GP said she needed antibiotics. I would phone your GP for advice.

I've just googled it, it is called a hair tourniquet, if that's what it is. Needs medical attention today, even if it's just to rule it out.

Hi @CathyandHeathcliff just wondering how your LO is now?

It looks like an infection around the toe nail, my daughter had this at a similar age, she was given an antibiotic cream. I think it's quite common.

I think its an infection too on the left nail base. See your GP
