Nystatin not helping oral thrush

DS (7 months) came up with oral thrush last Monday and got a bottle of Nystatin from GP to be given 4x a day. The bottle was finished tonight but it hasn't cleared up.
I just wondered if it was worth a trip back to GP or just to a pharmacist? I've read you can buy OTC treatment but as he is only small would he need to see GP again?

Are you breastfeeding? If so, you will need treating as well.

Bottle feeding - all cleaned and sterilised after each use

Hmmm, I don't know then I'm afraid. I'd probably ask the pharmacy first but only as it's near impossible to get a doctors appointment round here.

Thanks! It's actually easy for me but I've been there 5 times in as many weeks Confused genuinely on first name terms with GP HmmGrin

You can get different types of thrush treatment. If it's not cleared up speak to the gp and they should be able to prescribe you a different treatment like daktarin.

I have chronic autoimmune conditions and suffer with recurrent oral thrush. That stuff is next to useless on me. I always end up going back to the doctors for something stronger. (As an adult the only thing that works is the blue oral canestan tablet but I’m not sure what the child’s equivalent would be)! There are other treatments, they just prescribe the Nystatin (or whatever it’s called!) first because the side effects are almost non existent with that with most people.

Are you sure it's thrush? DS had what looked like thrush when he was little, I used a cotton but dunked in cooled booked water and it came off. Just be gentle and it prob took a few days. It was build up of milk

I ended up having to do 2x nystatin and 1x organge gel that was rubbed on the tounge

Try Daktarin oral gel from over the counter at s pharmacy. It tends to work better than Nystatin. And thoroughly clean all the things your baby puts in their mouth with Milton. Consider whether they are being reinfected by sharing toys at playgroup etc.

It's definitely thrush - caused by the never ending antibiotics. I'll nip to my pharmacy to get some Daktarin and give everything a good scrub!
Thanks :)
