Unsure whether to take DD (10yo) to minor injury unit (hockey ball hit hard into her knee)

Unsure whether to take DD to the minor injury unit today or tomorrow or whether I should wait and see if it her knee gets better on its own?

She is 10yo and was playing hockey. What happened is a bit confused but a ball definitely flew and hit her in the knee and subsequently another girl whacked her in the same knee with a hockey stick. She carried on playing but afterwards she has been limping.

It looks like the main injury is a bruise the size of a 50p and this is on the top corner of her kneecap. The knee isn’t swollen or it it is, it can’t be very much as it isn’t obviously visible.

What would you do? Minor injuries have an X-ray machine but I don’t know what she could have done to it that would be broken? Unless the actual kneecap can fracture (which surely would cause her more pain than she’s in, as she’s not needed any painkillers and is watching TV ok). As it wasn’t pulled or twisted, I can’t see how the ligaments could have been damaged? But it is hurting her to walk and she is limping. Could anyone give me any advice please?

Sounds like she's just got a bruise? If she's in no particular pain, I'm not sure why you'd be thinking of a&e.

It sounds like a cracking bruise.

I'd ice it tonight and see how it is in the morning.

I’m not thinking of A&E, just the minor injuries place that lists sports injuries as something they look at. She is alright sitting down but is limping in pain when she walks about. I am not sure whether just a bruise would cause pain like that and also the place that was hit is the bony knee cap, not a fleshy part that you’d expect to bruise and be ok.
