Newborn rash on neck (with pic)

Hi all

Just noticed this red mark on my 2 week old's neck. I'm fairly sure it wasn't there when she was born. It doesn't look sore or dry - just a red colour. Any ideas?

Could be a stork birth mark, or irritation from a soggy bib/babygrow. I would call your health visitor or midwife though to be on the safe side. Always better to check!

I’d guess at stork mark but like PP says, get it checked by midwife/health visitor.

My DD had similar on her neck and eye, they faded completely within a year.

Stork mark. My little one has one in the exact same place

Thank you! First DC so am a bit clueless about these things. She's absolutely fine in herself but will double check with midwife just in case.

All 4 of my boys had these in exactly the same place and all have faded away. I didn’t worry about them, eldest also had one in his ear and on his forehead, he’s now 17 and no signs of them anymore.

Is this on the back of the head/neck? My son had a red mark almost like a birth mark there for maybe the first year of his life. I never even thought to get it checked as like you, it wasn’t dry or itchy or angry, just there. I don’t know if it disappeared or my sons hair got too thick to see it but I certainly haven’t given it a second thought. Don’t worry :)

Stork mark on mine and he still has it a bit at 16weeks

wombatsears · 24/10/2018 15:59

Yes - on the back of her head and neck. Thanks all. Feel reassured!

when in doubt check it out

but does look like a birth mark could also be dry skin aveeno clears that right up either way a phone call does not hurt just be sure

My DS has the same on his neck, was told it was a stork mark

I would agree, stork mark. Very common place to have one.
