1 year old cough WILL NOT SLEEP

My dd turned 1 last week and for the last 4 days has had a phlegmy cough. It's barely noticeable in the day but at naptimes and night time it's really bad. She hasn't napped for longer than ten minutes since Saturday and she normally does 2 naps of at least an hour every day. She wakes herself up constantly overnight coughing. She's just woken up from a nap after 5 minutes because of coughing and just won't go back to sleep. I've got a gp appointment at half ten for her but I feel like there isn't a lot they will be able to do.

I've tried elevating one end of the cot, she's had baby vicks, a calpol plug in, nurofen in case she was in pain from the coughing. One of my friends suggested giving her piriton syrup to stop the coughing and mucus but that doesn't feel right. Does anyone have experience of using it? Is there anything else I could try?

The mucus she brings up is clear, no temperature or anything like that.

Go to doc. Could be asthma or chest infection

We went to the gp yesterday and they said it's just a cold but have given me a spacer and an inhaler.

Piriton does work, also Vicks on the soles of her feet with socks on in bed also works.

She is over 1 so piriton is suitable, it does dry out some of the phlegm temporarily but it also makes them drowsy and helps them to sleep through it a bit better. I give it to my son for chicken pox and also when he has a bad cough and can't sleep because of it.

you can get cough mixture for 1+.

Cough mixture of children doesn’t actually do much though. It’s just honey syrup type stuff.

*for

Thank you for the tips! She's been having the inhaler for a couple of days now. She absolutely hates having the spacer over her mouth and nose but it is making a difference to the cough
