My DD had a temp of 38.6 yesterday. She was ok most of the day but then went really quiet and said she was tired and barely moved for about an hour. I gave her some ibuprofen and she perked up. Today she was ok most of the day until around 2 when she just sat down after playing and fell asleep. She never naps so I checked on her and her face was red and she was really warm. Her temp was 39.5. I gave ibuprofen and after about an hour she perked up again. Then before bedtime she went boiling hot again so she obvs fighting off some sort of virus so gave medicine and then i put her to bed. My question is if she still has a fever tomorrow should I just keep giving ibuprofen and let her sleep or should I get her checked over by gp? This is the first time shes really been ill apart from chicken pox. And what if the fever is even higher? How high should a fever be before taking to a&e and is that only if the fever doesn't go down with ibuprofen?

Forgot to add I think she has a cold sore on her nose could that be causing it? She has had a little runny nose but other than that and fever she has been fine.

If the ibuprofen is working then personally I’d just keep a close eye for now. It’s difficult with temps. My daughter has always gone high when sick, over 40. The only time I called 111 was when her usual calpol was only bringing temp down for half and hour and she started talking rubbish in a kind of delirium . She thankfully improved overnight but had she not I would have def gone to a&e. Trust your instinct , sorry if that doesn’t sound helpful. Hope your lo is better soon

Are there any other sores. Could be hand, foot and mouth?
Keep her fluids up, sounds like you are doing the right things

Hi again sorry for the delay in replying. No there are no more sores and the one on her nose has practically gone now although she still says her nose is sore. She was fine again most of the day yesterday and went to playgroup and had fun. After playgroup though she went quiet again and fell asleep so I gave her an early night. This morning she has just laid down on the sofa. She doesn't seem herself. She's so quiet and won't have her breakfast. She has no temp this morning but I gave her some ibuprofen anyway. Is this just the end of the virus so you think? She doesn't say what's wrong other than she's tired.

Any idea on the source of the temp? My ds gets temps, how high the temp goes doesn’t always correlate with how sick they are but I tend to twitch over 40. With ds it’s usually his ear but they treat as viral unless it goes on over 5 days. If still getting temps after 5 days I would take her to get checked, sooner if she gets worse obviously. Hope she picks up soon
