Hi all, my little boy (13months) has had problems with his chest for months now. We are due to see a consultant in two weeks to determine whether or not he's asthmatic. On our last hospital visit the doctor mentioned that if asthmatic it could explain my ds weight gain. Has anyone had experience with asthma in toddlers?

Thanks

I'm asthmatic as is my niece. She demonstrated asthma at about 6 months with a ticket cough rather than wheezing. She was prescribed an inhaler with a spacer and little mask which I have her twice a day before taking my own (no spaces needed for me)
I began taking her swimming regularly as it is proven to help asthmatics and she is now 11 and rarely takes her inhaler (reliever no longer needs a steriod) She is a very active girl and takes part on athletics and gymnastics. Some children grow out of asthma, sadly I didn't but it's not that bad if managed. I recommend swimming and being very strict with hoovering and dusting as dust and dander can aggravate symptoms. Steam is also great to help relieve breathless or a tight chest x
