Hi.
Ds2 11 has Tinnitus he is being referred to ENT. He has had it for at least 2 years but didn't say because he thought it normal. Anyone have any experience of a child with this? Have looked at websites and booklet aimed at his age..he is rather upset at the moment. Thanks.

Ds is 11yo and has had glue ear since he was a baby. He's had bouts of tinnitus, especially when his grommets have been moving out. Like your ds, he assumed it was normal-he told me he was scared of the big fridge noise in reception. It was ages before we realised that it was a sound only he could hear.

For my ds it gets worse when the glue ear gets worse. Maybe ask him if there's times when it's better or worse.

Our daughter has also suffered with tinnitus since she was very young. She has significant ear problems and has to see ENT every 3 months, but this is never considered a big deal. We were told kids tend to deal with it better, and it’s best not to mention it or draw attention to it. Easier said than done I think!

Thanks for replies. He did have a series of ear infections when a baby and toddler and has recently had wax build up that has been syringed. I am just helping him deal with it now...particularly at night when it is quiiet.
