A week ago I saw what looked like a bad insect bite on my 5 year olds chest. Within 2-3 days it turned crusty and had lots of pus underneath. We got a cream from the pharmacist to help draw it out. It worked quickly, but took 4 days for the pus and blood to stop completely. On Saturday (so 5 days after the first) he came out with another one of these spots on the other side of his body! That one now looks badly infected. The old one is healing, but unfortunately he reacted to one of the plasters we put on and has an angry rash around it where the plaster stuck. Went to GP yesterday and got antibiotic cream, but that doesn't seem to stop the new spot getting worse.
My ds is happy and bouncy, the new infected spot hurts when touched just like the old one did, but otherwise no pain, no itching. GP was puzzled too and told us to come back for oral antibiotics if the cream doesn't work (which we ll do). Any ideas would be very welcome!

I think I finally managed to upload some pictures. 1st one is the older spot, with reaction to the plaster around it. 2nd the new spot.

Impetigo?

confusedandemployed · 30/09/2018 17:37

Molluscum? My DD has this, that's what the spots look like with her. Gp friend advises harmless, not much to be done to treat but goes away eventually.

By now, 5 daye after the above pictures, the first spot has healed ok. The plaster reaction/rash has gone. The 2nd spot looks better, but is still very gard and swollen...but now a 3rd one appreaed today, next to the 1st one.
GP said not impetigo, not chickenpox. Maybe molloscum, but odd for the spots to only appear 5 days after one another, only 2 (now 3) and instantly go infected/hot/sore to touch with pus coming out ...Apparently that's not common for molloscum?

Oh, GP friend said otherwise to me: she said they do get full of pus before eventually scabbing over. DD has had a couple erupting here and there periodically for months.
