Hiya,
My 3.5 yr old has been suffering the last couple of days with really hard poos. He was so upset on the toilet tonight.
Is there anything I can get over the counter to help? All of the usual advice we are already following. He couldn’t eat more fruit and veg if he tried, he’s really active and drinks plenty of water. It’s only been the last couple of days so hopefully will clear but don’t want to get to the situation where he is too scared to go to the loo.

Thanks

aw it might just be sonething he ate. poor boy. but orange juice with bits and prunes help, the pune poches ellas kitchen i know theyre for babies but they are sweet and he can gobble it down quickly. i know yogurts are meant to help too and mango. i wouldnt go down the route of medicine to help incase it is a long term thing because his body will not learn and will then rely on medicine and youll also not know whats casuing it and whats helping. it does take something like up to 40 hours or something for bodies to digest foods so he may have ate a lot of fruit today but wont take much effect until tomorrow.

I think lactulose is over the counter. It is not absorbed by the body but literally just moistens things up.if it’s a more long standing issue ask your GP or health visitor about the local continence team as they usually brilliant.
