Rash/reaction to Nits or Hedrin?

My DS had nits 2 weeks ago - he's only 1? got them at nursery we think.

treated the whole family with Hedrin immediately and did the second treatment. Since the first treatment, the day after, I had crazy itchy feeling on the back of my neck - burning itching, very sore but nothing visible.

Nothing on my actual scalp though which is weird as Hedrin went all over my head. So I think I may have had an allergic reaction to the nits?

Now, two weeks later, a bumpy rash is now visible on the nape of my neck - it's red, still as burning and itchy as before especially at night and looks like dry skin but red.

Haven't seen any live lice, but I did have eggs.

I got a allergy relief cream from boots and have applied twice, its made no difference so far. really worried something's burrowed its way in (ARGHH) or that I'm not diagnosing this properly and it might get worse?

Anyone got any ideas what this is and how to cure it. It must be related to the nits as this is when it started but thought it would be gone by now - my neck is itchier than my scalp has ever been.

DS is nit free now...

Rash on nape of neck is a sign of nits. Or you could be having an allergic reaction to the hedrin. Or you could be causing the rash yourself by over-scratching (their is nothing like thinking about nits to make your scalp feel itchy!). Have you been using a nit comb as well?

My DD had a reaction to the Hedrin overnight stuff - bumpy rash over her chest and tops of arms but nothing on her head!

We now use coconut oil with tea tree added, leave on for an hour or so to smother the lice, then comb out with nitty gritty and shampoo well. No reactions to that.

Red itchy skin as you describe, round her neck, just below her hairline, was a sign of nits in my DD.

Never experienced hedrin but nitty gritty & conditioner was very effective. We kept going every other day for a week or so.

One of mine reacts to hedrin and another reacts to nits.
If it's two weeks later then it's nits, I'm sorry to say.
The hedrin rash comes out even while you're putting it on, and he gets a bumpy rash all over anywhere it touches-last time he rubbed his cheek with his hand as he put it on and had a line of rash.

Do you also have the rash round the edge of your hair and down your parting? Those are were dd usually sees the first rash, then the nape of the neck comes if you don't treat it (we now know to treat as soon as we see the first)
