Stunted growth in asthmatic child?

Has anyone experienced this? My 5.5 year old is mildly asthmatic and on a steroid preventer inhaler. He has had this for around 18 months to 2 years and it has helped as before he often used to cough until he was sick. Recently though we've noticed he doesn't seem to be growing, he has dinky little feet and been wearing pretty much same shoe size for well over a year. His 3 year old brother has overtaken him on weight, size of feet and is rapidly catching his height. Could it be down to the steroids and should I be worried? Are GPs or HVs concerned about it at all and would it affect his height as an adult?

It might be to do with asthma. My asthmatic child had no growth issues but my other child did. Your GP should refer you to a paediatrician or endocrinologist if your child is dropping down their centiles. Child growth foundation have useful advice if you want some support as GPs don't always want to refer!

On the doses of inhaled steroids for mild asthma it is highly unlikely that that is causing any issues.

However, if he isn’t growing no harm getting things monitored by the gp
