Dentist visit- is this normal?

I bring dd (5) to the dentist every 6 months but all that seems to happen is he counts her teeth and checks for decay. Whole thing takes less than 5 minutes. I’m from a different country originally where a standard visit even for children includes a cleaning (covered under national health care, so free). Should I be scheduling her a cleaning separately or is it unnecessary?
