My 5yo has been prescribed Oxybutynin. Has anyone had any experience using this with young children. Any negative side effects?

Dd was on it for overactive bladder at a similar age, it was like flicking a switch it was amazing. She didn't experience any side effects and went from constant wetting to dry within a few days.
She was still wet at night until she was 8 but that's a completely different thing.

I have taken it as an adult and it dries out all your mucous membranes so be careful of overheating etc. I completely stopped sweating and it dried my mouth out so I was always thirsty. I wasn’t using it for bladder issues though and obviously I’m an adult so the dosage would presumably be very different.

Thanks everyone.
Yes, from what I’ve read it’s quite different adults vs children.
playingforkittens that’s good too hear! Yes, it’s for bladder problems. He’s been dry for years, then the last few months wet every day, sometimes multiple times per day 🙁

My dd has been prescribed it for an overactive bladder.
For us it doesn’t appear to be effective unfortunately (worked great for the first 3 weeks, then stopped working). Our consultant has put her back on the medication but her biggest side effect was overheating. In this weather she just can’t cope with the medication. We’ve stopped it for a while as I’m not convinced it was helping her.
I hope if works for you.

My DS15 has been taking them for several years and apart from saying that the tablets don't taste particularly nice he's had no other side effects. He takes it to stop/reduce bladder spasms and more recently to help with cramping caused by IBS.

My 9 year old takes this as well as desmopressin for constant bedwetting. They may up the dose at next appointment but hes gone from wetting 2/3 times a night to being dry most nights. No side effects here.
He can still only hold for about 40 minutes in the day before wetting himself so we still have to carry an empty bottle everywhere.
